Laura De Veau is honored to serve as a consultant with HCS. Laura has worked in the field of higher education administration since 1989. Her expertise is in the areas of residence life, strategic planning, staff recruitment, leadership and student engagement, however, she considers herself a generalist and an individual who respects the importance of capable and visionary administration. De Veau served as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Mount Ida College from 2013 until its closure in May of 2018.

Her experience in executive leadership during the closure of Mount Ida College provides her with a front seat view into the opportunities around mergers and closure management. She has a 30 year background in student affairs and student services, with specific expertise in the functional areas of residence life, housing, leadership programs and student engagement. She looks forward to bringing this experience to HCS and their clients.

Laura serves as the Principal and Founder of Fortify Associates, LLC,  a boutique consulting firm located in Newton, Massachusetts. Fortify Associates serves the higher education, not-for-profit and small business verticals on matters related to workplace optimization, strategic planning and management, and executive development.

In the spring of 2019, Laura joined her alma mater, Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education and Human Development as an adjunct faculty member teaching courses on strategic planning and contemporary issues in higher education in the graduate program in Higher Education Administration. Laura holds a M.Ed. in higher education administration and a B.S. in journalism, also from Boston University. She completed her Ed.D. at Northeastern University in 2021. Her dissertation and research was on the closure of small colleges.
